Questions, answered.
Everything you need to know about Florvex — who we are, how we work, and how to make the most of the guide.
01 What is Florvex?
Florvex is an independent editorial guide to softer weekends in and around Los Angeles. We gather considered places — hidden listening rooms, mineral baths, coastal cottages, desert cabins, garden tables, and architectural landmarks — and describe them in unhurried, honest prose. We are not a booking platform or an aggregator. We are a collection of ways to inhabit the region with more attention and less urgency.
02 Who writes the entries?
Every entry is written by the Florvex editorial team. We visit the places we describe, we walk the trails, we sit in the rooms, and we eat the food. We do not accept paid placements, and we do not publish content we have not experienced ourselves. The writing is slow because the visits are slow, and the pace is intentional.
03 Is Florvex free to read?
Yes. Every article, guide, and journal entry is free to read. There is no paywall, no subscription, and no required account. We believe that access to considered local knowledge should not depend on your budget.
04 How often do you publish new entries?
We publish when we have something worth publishing, which is typically twice a month. We do not publish on a fixed schedule because quality is not a function of frequency. When a new entry is ready, it appears in the journal and on the home page.
05 Can I suggest a place for you to write about?
Absolutely. If you know a quiet room, a considered trail, a thoughtful restaurant, or a landscape that rewards close attention, we want to hear about it. Write to us at [email protected] with a brief description and why it matters to you. We read every message, and we visit every place we eventually write about.
06 Do you verify the details before publishing?
Yes. We confirm hours, addresses, and access conditions at the time of publication. However, conditions change — restaurants close, trails reroute, tide times shift. We recommend verifying details directly with the venue before you go, especially for time-sensitive experiences like tide pools, cold water swims, or reservation-only restaurants.
07 Are your guides suitable for visitors or only for locals?
Both. The guides are written for people who live in Los Angeles and want to see it more softly, and for visitors who want an experience that goes beyond the obvious attractions. The entries describe real neighborhoods with real character, and they work equally well for a first visit and a hundredth.
08 Do you cover places outside Los Angeles?
Our primary focus is Los Angeles and the surrounding region — the coast, the mountains, the desert, and the cities within a two-hour drive. We occasionally publish entries for destinations further afield, such as La Jolla, Catalina Island, or the Angeles National Forest, when they offer a perspective that the closer landscape cannot provide.
09 What is the philosophy behind the writing?
The philosophy is simple: attention is a destination in itself. The value of a weekend is not how much happened but how fully you were present for what did. The writing is designed to slow the reader down, to provide enough detail to make a place feel real before you arrive, and to leave enough unsaid for you to discover on your own.
10 How do I contact Florvex?
The best way to reach us is by email at [email protected]. We respond to every message, though it may take a few days. For urgent corrections or factual errors in a published entry, please include the article title and the specific detail that needs attention.
